There was hardly any or no place for Reading Room when the Institute of Human Ecology was established in 1974. After nine years, the Institute was elevated into a full-fledged College and housed the CHE Reading Room at the CHE Main building with a floor area of 29.38 sq. meters.
In 1992, the Regional Training Program-Food and Nutrition Planning (RTP-FNP) became a social program of CHE Institute of Human Nutrition and Food(CHE-IHNF) housed at the CHE Annex Building with RTP-FNP Reading Room of 90 sq. m. floor area and 50 seating capacity. Thus the CHE then had two (2) reading rooms, the CHE Reading Room, which catered the CHE faculty, staff, students and other users inside or outside of UPLB, and RTP-FNP Reading Room, which served mainly participants of the programme from the Philippines and other Asia Pacific Region.
In June 1999, the two existing reading rooms of the College were merged and housed at the CHE main building. The UPLB-CHE Library is currently one of the members of the Nutrition Research Information Network (NUTRINET) formed way back in July 1987. The network consists of institutions whose libraries and documentation of information centers have linked up to establish a specialized information in food, nutrition and related fields.
The CHE Library occupies a floor area of 131 sq. m. and has a seating capacity of up to 65 persons. As of December 2022, the library has acquired a total of 10,290 materials classified as follows: 8554 volumes of books, pamphlets and bound periodicals; 467 theses and dissertations; and 1269 microforms, maps, CDS and other library materials.
