Place attachment has been studied over the past years in the realm of environmental psychology and other social sciences. In relation, this study explores the place attachment of the residents of Calauan, Laguna, a second-class municipality in the Philippines which faces a very challenging waste problem. This study used a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire incorporating socio-demographic characteristics, the three parameters of place attachment which were place identity, nature bonding, and community ties, and involving the concept of environmentally responsible behavior. Findings revealed that the place attachment of the residents, as determined by the three parameters used, were at a high level. Moreover, their environmentally responsible behavior was also at a positive degree and suggests that the respondents were more likely to think about themselves as individuals that are socially responsible for their environment. At the same time, when the place attachment and environmentally responsible behavior were fused, it resulted in a beneficial outcome of community action towards having positive solid waste management practices driven by the aforementioned factors. Therefore, it was concluded that place attachment can be a driver of community action towards having positive solid waste management practices in Calauan, Laguna. Lastly, active citizen participation, participatory planning, and harmonized decision making of different stakeholders must be executed to come up with appropriate and ecologically sound solutions.
