Many studies on human mate preferences affirm a universal sex difference among adults. However, there isn't much literature regarding the characteristic preferences of Filipino young adults from relocation sites in choosing their (potential) mates. The study aims to describe the most important characteristics in a mate of both the male and female residents from NHA Relocation Site who are 18 to 25 years old, using the Expanded Mate Selection Survey (2006) tool. Additionally, it aims to assess the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics and mate characteristic preferences of the respondents. Independent Samples t-tests were also performed to compare and determine the distribution of each trait of interest across the variables to illustrate the dominant characteristics preferred across all sex groups. Consistent with preceding findings, there was a universal difference between the traits of interest between the two sexes. Results show that Filipino young adults from NHA Southville 7 prefer partners with pleasing disposition in general. As for the females, the emotional and social characteristics of their (potential) partners emerged to be the most important while it is notable that among the males, the sexual characteristics of their (potential) partners gained the most emphasis.
