Food security, particularly food access and food availability, are one of the major sectors that have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Policies and restrictions brought about by the pandemic threaten food access and food availability mostly through economic and social factors, such as job loss, salary reduction, and social distancing protocols. This study aims to investigate the food security—in terms of food access and food availability—of selected households in Lucena City, and the factors affecting these dimensions. Coping strategies of households experiencing food inaccessibility and food scarcity were also investigated. Questionnaires were formulated based on the HFIAS and CSI. A total of 150 respondents, ages 18- 75 were interviewed personally. Results showed that food insecurity was higher in all indicators during the pandemic. Moreover, the coping strategy index score was interpreted as low among households. These findings highlight the adverse effects of COVID-19 responses on the food security of Lucena City residents.
