Effect of Fast Food Mukbang Challenge on Fast Food Consumption of Selected Senior High School Students in a University in Iriga City

Mukbang challenge, an internet craze for the past years has been associated to the food intake of its viewers. Despite several studies that examine the effect of mukbang to viewers in other countries, very little is known regarding the association between the exposure to fast food mukbang videos and the effect to fast food consumption of the viewers. This descriptive cross-sectional study aims to describe the effect of fast food mukbang challenge on the fast food consumption of selected senior high school students in a university in Iriga City. Data was gathered through a Google Form survey where the questionnaire is divided into sections: socio-economic and demographic profiles, knowledge, exposure, and attitude towards fast food mukbang watching and fast food consumption during the pandemic. Results show that there is a significant difference between the frequency of fast food consumption through dine-in (p=0.03003) and takeout (p=0.009462). Results showed a significant association between the family income and frequency of watching mukbang videos (p=0.01403). Moreover, a significant association was also found between location and change in fast food consumption (p=0.02908). Lastly, a significant association was also determined between frequency of watching fast food mukbang and change in fast food consumption (p=0.02383).
