This paper focuses on the socioeconomic characteristics and engagement in violent video games and academic grades of the Grade 7 students of Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba. It covers their sex, family income, and number of hours spent playing video games. The study was conducted using survey questionnaires administered to a total of 97 participants, 50 of them are male and 47 of them are female. Moreover, there are different income classes present in the participants and majority of them, belongs to the upper-middle class. In the findings, 53 out of 97 participants has an academic average ranging from 90-94. In terms of playing video games, most of them are interested in multiplayer online games which totaled to 68 students. There are 85 students who engage in violent video games and there are 11 who do not. From the results, the median score for sex and academic grade is 90–94. The correlation coefficient (rho) of family income and academic grade is -0.09, a very weak negative monotonic relationship. This also holds true for the number of hours spent playing video games and academic grades, which have a very weak negative monotonic relationship with a rho of -0.05. Lastly, the association between engagement in violent video games and the academic grades of the students resulted in a negative relationship with a point biserial coefficient of -0.07.
