University of the Philippines Los Baños, June 2022. Analyzing the Resilience and Vulnerabilities of the Dumagat-Remontado in Sitio Masla in General Nakar Using the Network of Place-Based Elements. Major Professor: SHARON FELIZA ANN P. MACAGBA, EnP., Indigenous Peoples have sets of indigenous knowledge, beliefs, and practices that help them to be resilient. However, as the municipality of General Nakar continues to be vulnerable, the resiliency of the Dumagat-Remontado community towards these natural hazards remains unseen. With this, the study used Galappaththi - Ford (2020) Modified Framework of Resilience to analyze the vulnerabilities and resiliency of the community. Results showed that the Dumagat-Remontado community remains to be vulnerable to different natural hazards as these hazards continue to intensify. However, the networks of place-based elements also show that the community is well-capacitated for resiliency through the linkages, connections, and conditions of these networks of place-based elements. From the networks of place-based elements, social characteristics of the community also emerged. These social characteristics influence the vulnerability and resilience of the community. Through this study, the community can be empowered by integrating their local and indigenous knowledge systems and practices into the menu of PPAs being implemented in the municipality. This co-production of knowledge enriches the dynamics of the municipality of which the community is part.
